In our lives we plan for important life-events such as birthing classes, weddings, home births, first communions, and other transitions. One transition we will ALL face is our own death, yet we seldom plan for it. In our society we spend more time buying a car or planning our next vacation than we do planning the events following our death!
As a Certified Death Midwife, part of my passion is to educate people about the availability of Community-Based after death care for loved ones. I serve to empower people to fulfill the wishes of their loved ones by keeping their care in the hands of people they love and trust rather than in the hands of strangers.
We loved and took care of them in life; why wouldn't we take care of them in death? Caring for someone we love when they are dying could be the most difficult thing we will ever do, but at the same time, also the most rewarding!
Since the emergence of Hospice in the 1960’s there has been a growing trend of families providing end-of-life care for their loved ones to allow them to die at home. Home funerals are a natural extension for families choosing to care for the body of their beloved in the home after death has occurred.
